The Big Idea

An interactive Speakers Corner for a public space in front of a museum. People can call up the sculpture and talk through it for 3 minutes. Constructed from 3000 recycled loudspeakers.

Full Description

In ancient Greek architecture, a THOLOS was a circular building, with a conical or vaulted roof, with or without a peristyle, or surrounding colonnade. With the passing of time, the THOLOI developed into becoming a sacred place for communicating with the Gods, the symbol for contact beyond the realms of people ́s imagination. The Tholos at Delphi is situated in the center the sanctuary of Athene Pronaia in Delphi. It was erected around 380 B.C. by Polycleitus in Doric order and is the most recent and best conserved THOLOS. My "Temple" will be a copy the Greek Temple at Delphi constructed from 3000 recycled loudspeakers that are soldered together as an active public sound sculpture. Sound: white noise from radio receivers and people's voices: by calling a particular telephone number, people can express themselves freely through the sculpture for 3 minutes.
